In 1931, during the American Great Depression, people in Cameroon wanted to raise money to help the Americans. Similar to a child who empties his piggy bank to help after a natural disaster, their fundraiser brought in a whopping $3.77. I just hope that America was kind enough to thank them for their effort.

My great-grandpa owned a bank during the Depression, the only one in the county that stayed open. We have his books and people took out loans for 25 cents, most were never repaid or took years to do so.

Jesus looked up and saw the rich putting their gifts into the offering box, and he saw a poor widow put in two small copper coins. And he said, “Truly, I tell you, this poor widow has put in more than all of them. For they all contributed out of their abundance, but she out of her poverty put in all she had to live on.”

Not trying to get too religious, but it’s not always about the total amount, but the effort is always weighed.
